The Bath Festival has said it is delighted to announce support for 2020 from Bath Recreation, the charity which owns the Bath Recreation Ground.
Bath Recreation, formerly known as Bath Recreation Ground Trust, has a long history which goes back to the 19th century.
The body owns and manages the Recreation Ground, the Glasshouse playing fields at Combe Down and Broadmoor Lane orchard and play area in Weston.
Its aim is to provide opportunities for the community to engage in sport and recreation.
In 2018 and 2019, the hugely successful Bath Festival Finale was held on the Recreation Ground, featuring stars including Robert Plant, Midge Ure, Van Morrison, Paloma Faith, Mabel and Clean Bandit.
Bath Recreation chief executive John Flinn, said: “Our relationship with Bath Festivals started two years ago and we are delighted to be supporting their outreach programmes to introduce more people to the joy that the festivals and performing arts can bring to the community.”
Bath Recreation supports a number of other community events including Bike Bath, Bath Carnival, the Bath Half Marathon and the Rotary Club firework display.
Since 2014, it has worked on a sports project with local primary schools which has given more than 3,000 children activities on the Recreation Ground.
The sports programme is managed by Bath Recreation’s staff alongside Bath Cricket Club, AK15 Dance and Bath Rugby Community team. At the end of each year, a week-long recreation festival is held for schools.
Ian Stockley, chief executive of Bath Festivals, said: “We’ve had two years of staging The Bath Festival Finale Weekend on the Bath Rec and are now very excited about broadening our relationship with Bath Recreation in 2020, which involves planning our third weekend on the Rec over the bank holiday weekend 23 and 24 May.
“Their support will also help us grow our night of free music for the community with Party in the City on 15 May and allow us to continue to develop the platforms that give value to the voices of children and young people from Bath and the surrounding area, through our creative learning and outreach programmes.
“We’re very grateful to Bath Recreation for their support as we bring people of all ages together with our festivals and invaluable outreach programmes.”
