A festive raffle organised by an opticians in the city centre in December has raised almost £1,800 for Bath Foodbank.
Staff at Specsavers on Westgate Street collected 12 prizes from local businesses to give away in the lead up to Christmas, as part of the ‘12 Days of Christmas’ raffle.
These included a three-course lunch for two at Chez Dominique, an afternoon tea box for two from Giddy Flamingo, two tickets for the Royal Theatre and ice-skating tickets for Bath on Ice.
The team also got competitive among themselves, with the top three ticket sellers winning boxes of chocolates.
In total, the store sold nearly 900 ticket strips in aid of the foodbank, which needed extra support over the festive period.
Phil Lodge, store director at Specsavers Bath said: “We’re thrilled with the final amount raised for the foodbank.
“So many people rely on its services over Christmas, and it’s great to know we made a difference to people who would’ve struggled otherwise.
“We want to thank the local businesses for their incredible generosity, as well as anyone who bought a ticket for supporting the cause.”
Bath Foodbank, which is part of the Trussell Trust network and Genesis Trust, provides emergency food boxes for people in crisis in Bath and the surrounding areas.
It is run by a team of volunteers and is entirely dependent on donations of food and finance.
