Bath & North East Somerset’s Chairman, Cllr Alan Hale, has announced the three charities he will be supporting during his year in office.
They are:
- Whizzybugs at the RUH, a charity that designs and and builds small powered wheelchairs for children under five with cerebral palsy.
- The RICE Institute at the RUH, which carries out research, treatment, support and much more to for individuals affected by dementia and their carers.
- Butterflies Haven, which is based in Keynsham but serves a much wider area, providing support, motivation and other services for people on the Autistic spectrum.
Cllr Hale has decided to adopt a different approach to fundraising and won’t be holding a grand dinner and dance; instead he is asking local communities to help fundraise.
He said: “I have decided to break with tradition and organise lots of smaller events to enable the wider community to get involved.
“I want to encourage groups, churches, social clubs and others to hold functions that will enable the community to have fun whilst raising money for three very worthy charities, very much like the how it works with Children in Need and Comic Relief.
“This idea will allow us to include the whole community as some people might be able to organise a small scale coffee morning whilst others might feel able to hold a choir concert or organise a sponsored event.
“I want everyone to feel wanted and included and most importantly to have fun in what they decide to do. I don’t have funding to support these but I will endeavour to support them, and attend as many as I can.”
A number of events are already in the planning stage but the Chairman is hopeful that many new ideas will come forward to raise funds for the charities.
Those who wish to organise an event can contact Cllr Hale at [email protected] or ring on 01225 394235.
Their events can then be publicised on the Council’s website and on other social networks. The Chairman can also be contacted to discuss fundraising ideas on 0117 9837923.
