Ben Howlett, the Member of Parliament for Bath, recently visited Age UK B&NES to join some of the people they support during their Christmas dinner and hear more about the ‘No one should have no one at Christmas’ campaign.
Following the visit, Ben said: ‘I really enjoyed visiting Age UK Bath and North East Somerset who were putting on a Christmas dinner for many elderly residents of the city.
“Those I spoke to were very thankful for the work of Age UK B&NES, who offer them support in all aspects of their life, as well as for providing them with a great place to make new friends.
“I also got to hear about Age UK B&NES’s campaign which aims to ensure no one has no one at Christmas. Christmas is a time of year where many of us spend time catching up with old friends and family, enjoying the festive atmosphere.
“Not everyone is this lucky and the many elderly people who may not be able to travel long distances to visit relatives and friends may find themselves alone.
“By supporting Age UK B&NES they will be able to provide companionship, advice and support for older people facing Christmas alone. You can easily donate £3 by texting AGEB33 £3 to 70070.
“By supporting Age UK B&NES, we can make sure that more people can enjoy the festive cheer.”
After being inspired by Age UK B&NES’s campaign Ben will be spending an hour on Christmas day at the Bath Churches Christmas Party to provide companionship to those who may not have it.
