Five Bath businesses are showing their support for local carers by sponsoring the B&NES Carers’ Centre annual awards night, which is taking place on Friday 13th October.

The awards have been made possible thanks to a partnership with another charity, Friends of Young Carers.

Curo, Bath College, Gerrard Financial Consulting, Minuteman Press and the Unlimited Company have also all agreed to sponsor an award for the evening.

The Carers’ Centre supports over 4,000 people locally who are looking after someone because they have a long term illness, a disability or are frail. Caring is rewarding, but can also be very isolating, stressful and tiring.

The awards aim to recognise carers who have made contributions to their local community whilst managing a caring role, as well as community partners such as schools, businesses and volunteers who have gone the extra mile to help carers or the Carers’ Centre.

Chief Executive Sonia Hutchison said the annual event is a great way to recognise the work of carers in our community.

She said: “It means so much to the people who have been awarded and that makes it very special. Carers so often go unseen day to day it’s important to acknowledge them and all the things they give up for their caring role.

“And of course our work wouldn’t be possible without the support of our community so we’ll be awarding those local businesses and organisations that have made the effort to consider carers and support our work.”

Returning host BBC Presenter Ali Vowles, who has hosted the event for the past two years, said of the event: “To meet so many extraordinary people who care for their loved ones – and make them feel special for the night – is a real privilege.

“Caring is such a hidden, often overlooked role. They really are unsung heroes.”

The event will take place on Friday 13th October 2017, 5.00pm – 7.15pm, at Somerdale Pavilion, Cross Road, Keynsham BS31 2FW.
