Local youngsters who treat their teddy bears to a day out will receive free travel in return at Avon Valley Railway this Sunday, 20th September.

Families are invited to join in a day of teddy bear-themed fun as the heritage railway attraction hosts another popular Teddy Bears’ Picnic.

As well as balloon modelling, Punch and Judy shows, arts and crafts activities and a teddy bear hunt with a prize for each child who completes the trail, the steam and diesel-hauled trains will be running throughout the day.

In honour of the occasion, any child who brings along their own teddy will get free rides along the restored track, which runs from Bitton to Oldland Common.

Mark Simmons, commercial manager, said: “This is a great opportunity for families to enjoy a day out together to make the most of the end of summer.

“For many youngsters, I’m sure it doesn’t get much better than a day filled with teddy bears and trains and we look forward to seeing children enjoying their free train rides with their favourite friends in tow.”

Of course, the day wouldn’t be complete without a picnic and the Station Buffet at Bitton will be offering picnic boxes at £4.25 each.

Children will have a small filled roll, juice drink, Freddo chocolate bar, a piece of fruit, a packet of crisps and a mini bear gift.

Adults’ picnic boxes include a large sandwich, juice drink, slice of cake, a packet of crisps and a piece of fruit.

Train fares for adults are £7.50, children aged from five to 14 travelling without a teddy bear £5.50 and £6.50 concessions.

Family tickets (two adults and up to four children) can also be purchased for £21.50. Advance booking is not required.

Call Avon Valley Railway on 0117 932 5538 for more details or visit www.avonvalleyrailway.org for more on forthcoming events.
