Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) is inviting families to go along to a fun day at the new fire station at Hicks Gate which became operational in April this year.

The event on Saturday 16th July, will give members of the public an opportunity to visit the new fire station, see some of the vehicles and equipment and experience live rescue demonstrations.

There will also be a chance for children to join in the fun activities including; making their own fire service badge, playing the Hose and Ladders game.

Children can also meet Fido the Fire Dog and test their skills in the hose reel game. There will be barbeque food available to buy as well as an ice cream van.

AF&RS has invited many partner organisations to join them for the fun day including; South Western Ambulance Service, Avon and Somerset Constabulary, British Red Cross emergency response service and Great Western Air Ambulance Charity.

The event takes place from 11am until 4pm at the fire station located on the Hicks Gate roundabout near Keynsham.

Parking on site will be limited so visitors are asked to park opposite the station on Durley Hill.

Station Manager Russ Bennett said: “I’m delighted to invite members of the public, especially children to see our new fire station at Hicks Gate.

“This is a great opportunity for local people to come along and find out more about our work.

“Part of the role of the fire and rescue service is to provide community safety advice on fire prevention. We would urge people to come along and talk to us about our free Home Fire Safety Visits where firefighters visit homes to give fire safety advice and fit smoke alarms for free, if required.”
