Avon Fire & Rescue Service is inviting aspiring on-call firefighters across the area to ‘have a go’ at some of the activities associated with the role at a number of upcoming events.
The sessions, being held at the Paulton, Chew Magna, Nailsea and Winscombe fire stations, will give those interested in becoming on-call firefighters the chance to try some of the tests that trainee firefighters complete during the recruitment process.
Avon Fire & Rescue are currently prioritising recruitment at six of their on-call fire stations: Nailsea, Yatton, Chew Magna, Paulton, Blagdon, and Winscombe.
If you’re interested and live within five minutes of any of these on-call stations, you’re being encouraged to go along and ‘have a go’.
Next month, the fire service will be holding three sessions at each of the fire stations below, with 12 places per day available.
- Nailsea Fire Station – 18th May 2021
- Paulton Fire Station – 19th May 2021
- Chew Magna Fire Station – 20th May 2021
- Winscombe Fire Station – 22nd May 2021
There will be a range of 2-hour sessions available at each fire station and attendees will take part in a number of activities, including:
- Equipment carry
- Ladder climb
- Casualty evacuation
- Breathing apparatus circulation
- Strength and fitness (only available at Nailsea and Chew Magna)
The events come ahead of the next two training schools, which begin on 31 July and 16 October.
If you have any questions about the event or would like to get in touch with the on-call support officers team, contact [email protected].
On-call firefighters live within five minutes of the on-call station and train to the highest standard to protect their local communities while earning a second income.
