Area forum to hear update on Ukrainian refugees and their sponsors

People in Bath are being given the opportunity to find out how Ukrainian refugees who came to the city and their sponsors, who offered them space in the homes, are being supported.

The Bath Area Forum, being held via Zoom on Thursday 16th June at 6pm, will see residents hear an update from The Community Wellbeing Hub and Issy Warren from Bath Welcomes Refugees on the work taking place locally to support those displaced by the war in Ukraine.

The meeting’s ‘Community Showcase’ will focus on the theme of ‘Making space for all in our city’s Nature Recovery’, drawing on community expertise in ecological mapping and local agri-food initiatives.

Speakers will include Brendan Wistreich, director at Bath City Farm and William Gay from Roots Allotments.

Nicolette Boater, chair of Bath Area Forum said: “I am looking forward to my first meeting as chair of the forum and am keen to encourage residents to join us online to find out what’s happening in our area and make sure their voices are heard.”

Those attending will also have an opportunity to share their aspirations for the forum and suggest future topics for discussion.

Councillor Kevin Guy, leader of the council said: “The area forums are a great way for communities to share information and get feedback on new initiatives and work that is going on in their area. I’d urge residents to try to get involved and let us hear their views.”

The Bath Area Forum, which is open to all residents, is supported by Bath & North East Somerset Council and brings together public services, local organisations and residents to improve local engagement, encourage people to talk to each other and share their skills and ideas.

The forum is one of five within Bath and North East Somerset. The others are Keynsham, Chew Valley, Bathavon and Somer Valley.

To join the Zoom meeting at 6pm on 16 June, residents will need to register in advance.
