A planning application to change the use of House of St John’s in Queen Square in Bath so it can hold weddings has been approved.

House of St John’s at No.1 Queen Square in Bath

The proposal was lodged with Bath & North East Somerset Council by St John’s Foundation for “occasional use” of some of the office space for small wedding ceremonies, similar to a register office, while maintaining the current use of the building as flexible office space.

The Grade I listed building at 1 Queen Square was recently restored as luxury service workspace.

Wedding ceremonies will be limited to Saturdays only, between 10am and 6pm. There is no intention to host receptions.

The courtyard will be used for private photographs in association with the ceremonies.

In approving the application, council planning officers placed conditions to ensure that ceremonies don’t take place after 6pm, that no hot food is prepared on site and that there is no external amplified music.
