The Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) is calling on residents across the area to take on a challenge for 2019, and join them for the Bath Half Marathon on Sunday 17th March.
With general public spaces for the Bath Half now completely sold out for runners, doing it for a charity is a great way to still secure a place for 2019 and every mile that you cover will help save lives with GWAAC.
The charity provides the critical care and air ambulance service for Bath and North East Somerset and surrounding areas.
In 2018, the charity had its busiest year to date, with the Critical Care Team attending to a record number of 130 incidents in Bath and North East Somerset alone, providing life-saving interventions at the scene.
GWAAC receives no funding from the government, yet needs to raise over £3 million each year to keep it operational, relying on generous donations and the support of the community to keep it flying – and the Bath Half Marathon is the perfect way to get involved.
GWAAC’s Community Fundraising Coordinator for Bath, Ian Cantoni, said: “Running the Bath Half for GWAAC is a great way to show your support for Bath’s local air ambulance charity.
“We’re so proud of all of our Team GWAAC runners who are already out pounding the pavements – by joining our team, every penny you raise will be helping to save lives in the local area.”
With last year’s Bath Half cancelled due to the bad weather, GWAAC missed the opportunity of having a team of runners fundraising for the charity, and this year are keen to come back stronger than ever.
This year, the GWAAC helicopter will be doing a flyover on race day.
The Bath Half is one of the most established and popular half marathons in the UK, and the largest single day charity fundraising event in the South West.
The course runs alongside the river Avon, starting and finishing in the heart of Bath and is flat, making it suitable for all abilities.
Registration is just £19 and includes a GWAAC running vest and fundraising and running support.
