Age UK B&NES has organised a series of activities for older people across the Bath area in the run up to Christmas, to ensure that nobody feels lonely over the festive period.
Hayesfield Girls’ School Year 7 visited St Michael’s Day Centre in Bath to sing carols on Thursday 7th December. They also made cards for all 134 of the day centre members in Bath, Midsomer Norton and Keynsham.
Also on 7th December, around 45 volunteers attended a Christmas party at St Michael’s Day Centre. It was organised as a thank you for all the work they do to support 12,000 older people during the year.
On Monday 11th December, there was a Christmas lunch party at Beacon Hall in Peasedown St John. The ingredients were supplied by Tesco and lunches were made by local volunteers.
Friday 15th December will see a team from Bath-based Epoch Wealth Management volunteering at St Michael’s Day Centre. The company is paying for Christmas dinner for all the members and will also be bringing along presents for members of all three of the charity’s day centres.
Around 70 people are expected to attend a party at the Midsomer Norton Hub at Orchard Hall on Tuesday 19th December, from 12 noon – 2pm. Local community groups, including Sporting Family Change, and representatives from Bath College will be coming along, as well as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
Many of those attending are supporting the event and local accountancy firm King Watkins have also donated £50. If you’d like to attend, please contact Ketyn on 01225 484510 or email [email protected].
The winter months can often be the loneliest and some older people may go all week without speaking to another person, including at Christmas.
A donation today to Age UK B&NES, which is a local charity, can help support their work in our communities:
- £25 could help run a lunch club where an older person can get a hot, home-cooked meal amongst friends.
- £35 could support the charity to offer practical support such as claiming benefits or doing food shopping when the weather is icy.
- £50 could help to match Befrienders to lonely older people who can’t go out in the cold weather.
