A431 between Bath and Bristol set to close again for tree works

The A431, which links Bath and Bristol, will be closed on Sunday 11th August near Kelston for more tree cutting and other works.

The road was closed for four days at the end of May to cut back overhanging trees.

It followed an incident earlier in the month in which a school bus hit a branch, which resulted in smashed windows and a number of children on the top deck sustaining minor injuries.

First Bus re-routed services via the A4 for three weeks, leaving villagers in Bitton, Swineford and Kelston without buses.

When tree works were finally arranged they involved the daytime closure of the road between the junction with Penn Hill Road in Bath and the access road to Kelston Park.

Now Openreach has applied to Bath & North East Somerset Council for the closure order which affects the stretch of Kelston Road from its junction with the access to Dean Hill House and the access road to Kelston Park.

As well as tree cutting, Openreach will be carrying out pole clearance and replacement works.

The official notice from the council says the work will take one day and involve the closure of the road between 9am and 3pm.

However, signs that have been put up in the area say the work will take three days.

Drivers are advised that the alternative route is via the A4. Pedestrians will still have access.
