Plans for the second phase of junction improvements on the A39 will be published by Bath & North East Somerset Council later this month, as it aims to further reduce congestion on this busy route.

The first phase at the Two Headed Man junction was finished in November last year; aimed at cutting queue lengths, improving journey times and reducing emissions from idling cars which impact on air quality.
Now the Council is proposing further improvements at the Bences Garage junction, where the A39 and A368 connect at Marksbury.
The improvements would see the southbound carriageway widened to accommodate two lanes, with separate ahead and left turn options.
Councillor Mark Shelford, (Conservative, Lyncombe) Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment, said: “Tackling congestion pinch points and helping road users get around efficiently is a key priority for the Council.
“Last year, with funding assistance from the Local Growth Fund, we were able to tackle a significant traffic hotspot on the A39.
“The benefits of this scheme were seen immediately in reduced delays, and with further funding this year we plan to deliver the other key project to keep traffic moving and cut queues which affect air quality.”
The plans will be on display at a drop-in session taking place at Marksbury Village Hall on 27th March between 5.30pm and 7pm.
Following this, they will also be online at www.bathnes.gov.uk/A39improvements. Confirmation of grant funding is expected in April, with construction anticipated to start mid-2018.
