Former City of Bath College student Lascel Wood is winning rave reviews as he tours the country as the King of Pop.

The 22-year-old X Factor star from Bath is wowing crowds as Michael Jackson in the UK tour of Thriller Live.

The spectacular concert celebrates the 40-year career of Michael, who sold more than 750 million records worldwide.

Lascel, who appeared on the X Factor TV show in 2011, is one of four performers who pays homage to Michael’s all-singing and all-dancing performances.

The cast perform smash hits such as Billie Jean, Dirty Diana, Smooth Criminal, ABC and I Want You Back.

Reviewers have praised Lascel for “putting on a convincing performance with fantastic vocals” and having “a soft, youthful quality to his voice.”

Lascel was on the BTEC Extended Diploma in Music course at City of Bath College in 2010 and is a graduate of the College’s successful BA1 Records label.

He went on to gain a Vocal Diploma from the Brighton Institute of Music but continues to return to Bath to see family and friends. He performed at the city’s Christmas lights switch on in 2011.

Lascel was asked to audition for Thriller Live by a member of the show’s management team who saw him singing in a Brighton karaoke bar. He impressed at the audition then underwent weeks of rehearsals before the six-month tour kicked off in Belfast last month.

Lascel wrote on Facebook: “I have landed myself a lead role in Thriller Live…It’s been a very long process but it was all worthwhile. Let the fun and hard work begin.”

He has recently impressed his home crowd with a week-long stop at the Bristol Hippodrome.

Lascel says it’s been an “incredible journey” and he’s honoured to appear in “a fantastic show” with a “great cast and great production team.”

The talented cast of Thriller Live also includes Cleo Higgins, the lead singer of 90s pop group Cleopatra.
