An event hosted by the City of Bath College will see a large group of pirates walking the plank into the unknown waters of Bath.
The story for the student event is as follows…
A massive storm has resulted in a vortex in time and a large group of pirates have walked the plank into unknown waters.
The pirates, who are wearing Red Coats from the 1600’s, are unsure of their modern-looking surroundings as they have been transported from the Bermuda Triangle and sent into the vortex of 2013.
Scrolls discovered around the College have to be uncoded to allow the pirates to turn back the clock.
On Wednesday 9th October the true extend of the mystery will be unravelled, as the College unleashes ‘Walk Like A Pirate’ on the unsuspecting public.
The pirates must navigate the sea of shoppers in Bath’s city centre to find hidden clues that will lead them to some modern day treasure and a portal back to the past.
The swashbuckle adventure is a fun College-wide event that aims to bring together students from different departments at the start of a new academic year.
The event will begin at around 3.30pm with an alarm being sounded at the College, followed by an announcement from Principal Matt Atkinson asking all students and staff to evacuate the building.
Once outside the Avon Street campus, the students will be met by pirates and will have the opportunity to be transformed into pirates by having their make-up done.
The event has been arranged by the College’s Tempa department (technology, entertainment, media, music, performing arts).
The College’s Media Course Coordinator ‘Captain’ James Purslow said: “Students and staff will wait warily at the entrance to the Roper building to get a glimpse of the marauding people from the past, however, some will be surprised to see their peers and colleagues have been transformed too.
“This is a College-wide event with participation from the Principal down. We think this will be a fantastic learning experience for the learners and support cross college collaboration between learners and staff.
“The afternoon promises to be great fun for not just our students and staff but also hopefully people in Bath city centre. Everyone is encouraged to join in with the walk through the city.”
He added: “Arrggghhh come on pirates, get your peg legs on and let’s find some treasure.”
The pirate walk will proceed from City of Bath College towards the Little Theatre then around to BHS and over to Bath Abbey, before heading to Kingston Parade.
There will be a series of short performances, songs and sea shanties by TEMPA students at pre-prepared stages around the city centre, culminating in a pirate party at the Egg Theatre.
This fancy-dress event will build on the success of the College’s Zombie Apocalypse in October last year.
