A trade waste scheme introduced by Bath BID to streamline and improve waste collected in Bath has won a national award in recognition of its innovative and efficient management system.
The British BIDS “Proud Project Awards” are given in recognition of quality services and standards within the BID industry and the Bath BID was awarded the Innovation and Service Delivery Award at a ceremony held in London on Wednesday 6th November 2013.
“We are thrilled with this award” said Andrew Cooper, Bath BID Manager “The trade waste initiative is a scheme that took almost two years to plan and execute as a central trade waste collection system was considered a ‘too hard to do’ issue.
“However, by collaborating with Bath businesses and working with independent environmental consultancy, Eunomia we specified a bespoke waste collection scheme which would not only make waste collection easier but much more cost effective for businesses operating in the city centre. By tendering the job we found a supplier in SITA UK that has not only delivered a better proposition but encouraged and improved business recycling rates.
“Perhaps more importantly, we have been able to deliver a much higher quality of service for our levy payers for a much cheaper price and really that is what the Bath BID is all about – improving profitability as well as business efficiency and sustainability.”
The Bath BID has developed an ambitious project that has been proposed in many cities but never implemented, which is to subside recycling and waste management for all businesses in the improvement district area.
Over 100 members of the Bath BID signed up to the service in six weeks after its launch and today over 300 businesses use the service. Businesses based in the BID area that are not levy payers but would like to benefit from the recycling and waste management scheme can pay a levy to benefit from the service by contacting the Bath BID office on 01225 430640.
