The Carers’ Centre in Bath is to host their first Spring Craft Fayre and Open Garden this Saturday, with the opportunity to visit their famous ‘One Show’ garden.
The public will be given their first chance to see the garden which was donated by the BBC programme last year.
There will also be over 17 stall holders selling crafts including stained glass, local pottery, jewellery, embroidered gifts, scented candles, paintings and more.
Sales of hot drinks and raffle tickets will fundraise for the Carers’ Centre, supporting unpaid carers in the local community.
The garden, originally designed for the Royal Hampton Court Flower Show, is inspired by the Roman Baths and the city’s unique Georgian architecture.
Since its installation last summer, a team of dedicated carers and volunteers, led by local garden designer Rosie Nottage, have been continuing to tend and develop the space.
David Trumper, Acting Chief Executive at the Carers’ Centre said: “The garden has proved to be a real place of tranquillity and relaxation for carers, many of whom have very little chance to take time out for themselves.
“We’re delighted to be able to invite the public to see the space.
“With our first ever Craft Fayre happening inside the building, we’re ready to welcome people whatever the weather!”
Caring for someone can be incredibly stressful, exhausting and isolating, and is a daily reality for seven million people in the UK, and at least 20,000 people living in Bath and North East Somerset.
92% of carers surveyed for the Carers UK Caring State of Caring (2013) said caring had a negative impact on their mental health, including stress or depression.
Carers may often find themselves unprepared for the impact their situation has on their ability to work, their finances and emotional, physical and mental health.
They often try to cope on their own with the effects of caring for months or years before accessing support.
