People in Bath are being invited to have their say on proposals to develop a brownfield site in the city, previously used by audiobook producer AudioGo before it went into administration in 2013.
Merrion Group and C Group Developments, joint developers of Chivers House on Windsor Bridge Road, are proposing to replace the existing commercial warehouse on the site with much-needed office space as well as residential units.
The site is currently used for temporary storage but the new scheme will create a number of new jobs for the city and support businesses looking to expand in Bath.
The proposals include approximately 6,000 sq.ft. of office space along with a mix of affordable studio apartments and Purpose Built Student Accommodation.
The development will also, through a land donation from the developers, enable Bath and North East Somerset Council to realise their ambitions for a Sustainable Transport Route (STR) running out of the city centre to the west of the city.
A former railway bridge to the rear of the site, which is currently not accessible to the public, could be opened for pedestrians and cyclists.
A new public open space on the site will link the new STR and the reopened bridge with the popular Two Tunnels Cycle Route.
Members of the public are invited to learn more about the scheme at a public exhibition on Wednesday 24th January between 12pm and 7pm at Green Park Station, Bath.
The exhibition will allow people to view the plans and designs.
Members of the project team will also be present to answer any questions people might have.
A spokesperson for the developers said: “The redevelopment of the Chivers House site brings real opportunity for the city.
“We believe our scheme will support Bath’s growing business community.
“We are also pleased to be able to include affordable studio apartments for people who live and work in Bath.
“The inclusion of Purpose Built Student Accommodation will attract the necessary investment to help realise this unique mixed-use development including the enabling of the STR.”
For those unable to attend, the consultation materials and feedback form will be available online at www.ChiversHouseBath.co.uk from Wednesday 24th January.
