Top ratings have been served up at twelve food stalls at Bath’s popular Christmas Market, following inspections carried out by environmental health officers from Bath and North East Somerset Council.

Twelve have been awarded the top grade for food hygiene which is a five – giving customers confidence in their high standards.

The stall holders with five stars are the Apres-ski Bar, Burger Co, Ye Olde Hogroast, Jolly Hog, The Courtyard, Suzette’s Fresh Pancakes, Green Park Brasserie, The Angelfish Restaurant, The Waffle Company, The Gourmet Donut Co, Cho Chou Nuts Over You and The Lodge.

Cllr Bob Goodman (Conservative, Combe Down), Cabinet Member for Development & Neighbourhoods said: “We want everyone enjoy the Christmas Market. Making sure stalls are inspected for the highest standards of food hygiene is part of that.

“Our officers have inspected stalls and it is reassuring to know that twelve of them have been given a five rating for food hygiene.”

The rating reflects the standards of food hygiene found on the date of inspection, it’s not a guide to food quality. Officers assess how hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored.

They also look at the condition of the structure of the stalls – the cleanliness, layout, lighting, and other facilities as well as how the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe.

At the end of the inspection, the business is given one of the six ratings from 0-5. The top rating of five means that the business was found to have ‘very good’ hygiene standards.
