Royds Withy King has advised one of the UK’s largest suppliers of wood-based timber products, Avon Plywood Limited, on the company’s sale to Sydenhams Ltd for an undisclosed sum.

Solicitors from Royds Withy King’s corporate, commercial property and employment teams worked closely with owners Paul Williams and Chris Toogood on the sale of Avon Plywood together with the company’s premises at Pixash Lane, Keynsham.

The buyer, Sydenhams, was established in 1874 and is an independent timber and builders merchants with a network of 29 branches across the South of England, including Bath.

Commenting on the sale, Paul Williams of Avon Plywood, said: “Having grown the business with the support of our loyal staff and customers over many years, we were looking for an opportunity to expand our product range and geographical reach and we are very pleased to have been able to achieve this by joining Sydenhams.

“Throughout this deal, we have been impressed by the efficiency, integrity and sheer professionalism of the team at Royds Withy King and would not hesitate in recommending them.”

James Worrall, a senior associate in the corporate and commercial team at Royds Withy King, said: “Royds Withy King has worked closely with Paul, Chris and Avon Plywood for a number of years so we were delighted to be able to pull together a multi-disciplinary team to advise them on all aspects of the company’s sale to Sydenhams.

“Both companies are independent, family-owned businesses so there is a natural synergy between the two which, together with their complementary products, can only enhance their position in the market and add value to Avon Plywood’s substantial customer base.”
