A new taproom is due to open on the corner of Broad Street and Green Street in the city centre in what was Belushi’s.

The sports bar at No.9 Green Street closed suddenly last month.

Now Somer Valley Brewing, part of Peasedown St John-based Somer Valley Farms, is planning to open what will be known as ‘The Welly’ on the ground floor of the Grade II listed building.

The upper floors are used as a St Christopher’s Inn backpackers’ hostel.

An application submitted to Bath & North East Somerset Council seeks advertisement and listed building consent for six fascia signs and two non-illuminated hanging signs advertising The Welly and its association with Somer Valley Brewing, together with its local craft beer and food.

Old photos of when the building was Fortt’s – the company famous for its Bath Oliver biscuits and Bath buns – have been submitted with the application.

The locations, sign type, scale and font from the Fortt’s era have been analysed and inspire the new signage.

The deadline for comments is 6th June. The planning reference is 25/01722/AR.
