New retail unit to be built at Walcot Service Station on London Road

Plans to build a second commercial unit at Walcot Service Station on London Road have been approved by Bath & North East Somerset Council.

The Esso-branded station already has a forecourt shop, and the new single-storey development will be at the rear corner of the site next to the existing premises.

The exact occupier is not yet confirmed by Rontec Service Stations 1A Limited, but the unit will operate as Class E (a), which is shops, and/or Class E (b) which is restaurants and cafés.

The location is currently used for parking for three vehicles. These spaces will be lost but a new accessible parking space will be created in front of the forecourt shop.

Council planners said in their analysis that the new premises, which will be a lower height than the existing shop, can be considered as providing for local needs as it will be within easy walking or cycling distance.
