IKON Construction Ltd celebrated 15 years of building across Bath and Bristol last Friday, 21st October, with a 12-inch-high ‘building cake’ replicating the former labour exchange building on James Street West.
The cake was made to scale and replicated IKON’s current rebuilding of the former labour exchange site on Bath’s James Street West.
The historic, Grade II Listed building holds the last visible reminders of the bombing in Bath during WW2 and IKON expertly designed the scaffold around the building to protect the shrapnel-damaged facade.
IKON was founded in 2001 by managing directors Peter Hargreaves and Steve Chant, who lives in Bath.
Over the last 15 years, IKON has completed a large number of successful projects within the Bath area in a wide range of sectors, from residential to retail and leisure.
Some highlights include:
- The recent mixed-use development on Widcombe Hill incorporating a Morrisons supermarket, student accommodation and new community hub;
- A number of London 2012 ‘legacy’ projects including moving one of the decommissioned Olympic swimming pools from London to Bath University Sports Village and the refurbishment of the bobsleigh push start track at Bath University, both of which are used by Team GB;
- Several large student accommodation developments including Piccadilly Place and Quasar building as well as ongoing refurbishment and build projects at Bath University where the company has a permanent base.
IKON has enjoyed steady growth over the last 5 years and has a team of 16 people at its offices in Bristol as well as employing a further 100 staff working on sites around the region at any one time.
The company’s proven success and growing reputation in the commercial sector, has led to significant new business wins in the UK Retail sector including contracts for Lidl and Bestway Group.
“We are delighted to be enjoying strong partnerships with established clients as we move into our 16th year; whilst continuing to forge new alliances with prestigious developers and large commercial businesses, said MD and Co-Founder, Peter Hargreaves.
“Over the last 15 years, we have undertaken a real variety of projects in the Bath area: from student accommodation and a community social club; to retail outlets and Grade II Listed heritage builds.
“The best part of this job is seeing how a new development changes the ‘dynamic’ within a community; and hearing from people who now enjoy buildings that would otherwise have been unused or forgotten,” he added.
