Developer seeks permission to build up to nine homes in village

There are plans to build up to nine homes in a village near Bath.

The site, which measures about an acre, is part of a field next to the A39 Bath Road at Farmborough and adjoins the village’s defined housing development boundary.

Permission in Principle (PiP) is being sought from Bath & North East Somerset Council for a minimum of five and a maximum of nine homes.

PiP is an alternative way of obtaining planning permission for housing-led development. If granted, a subsequent application would be submitted for the detailed design.

There would be a new vehicular access off the A39 Bath Road. The indicative layout shows detached and semi-detached houses with off-street parking and proportions in keeping with existing housing to the east.

Planning agents for the developer say that the site is consistent with the definition of “Grey Belt” which allows development in less significant areas of the Green Belt.

The site is generally flat and there is a drain along the western site boundary. The area is said to be at low risk from flooding.

The existing public right of way across the site would be retained and potentially diverted slightly to allow development.

The site is said to be in a sustainable location.

The planning reference is 25/03040/PIP, and the deadline for comments is 29th August.
