A rider from Bath has been recognised for his efforts to go the extra mile for his community during the COVID-19 crisis, after Deliveroo announced the winners of its annual Rider Awards 2020.
Simon Bucknell, a Deliveroo Rider for almost four and a half years, has been working in his own time to support NHS staff and those in need around the community.
Since the start of the lockdown, Simon has worked almost 900 hours as an NHS volunteer while working over 50 hours a week with Deliveroo.
He had originally joined the NHS Volunteer Scheme to help support elderly people, but was so inspired by this that he decided to launch his own campaign.
In April 2020, Simon launched his own fundraising campaign, #feedtheruh, with the aim of delivering free food to hospital staff, and the children’s ward, at Bath’s Royal United Hospital.
He was able to raise £500 towards food for the hospital, which was spent on sandwiches that he delivered himself.
On top of this, Simon was able to work with a local restaurant, The Oven, who cooked him over 40 pizzas which he then delivered to the RUH.
This year, Deliveroo is celebrating riders who have demonstrated heroism and helped improve the lives of others in their local community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The winning riders have demonstrated how they have played a vital role during the pandemic as key workers and gone above and beyond to support and provide for vulnerable members of their community.
Deliveroo CEO and founder Will Shu said: “Our riders are heroes and at the heart of everything we do.
“They have worked tirelessly this year to provide for and support their local communities, and have proved themselves to be invaluable during the Covid-19 crisis.
“We are very proud of all they have achieved and the enormous contribution they make to people’s daily lives.”
