Bath convenience store closes despite campaign to keep it open

A Bath convenience store has closed its doors for good despite a petition signed by more than 200 people to keep it open.

The manager of Morrisons Daily in Bathwick, Jolanta Szubert, started the petition on the change.org website.

It said: “We, the undersigned residents, customers, workers, and supporters of the Bathwick community, strongly oppose the planned closure of the Morrisons supermarket in Bathwick.”

It added: “This store is far more than just a supermarket. It is an essential local service relied upon by families, elderly residents, people without easy transport, and many others in the local area. It also provides important local jobs and supports the wider community.”

However, the shop in Bathwick Street ceased trading on 18th July.

A sign on the door says: “This Morrisons Daily Store has now permanently closed. Thank you for your support, we look forward to serving you in another store.”

In an update on the change.org website, Jolanta Szubert said: “The company decided to close 110 shops and we are one of them, despite the progress, increase in sales and high standards achievement in the last eight months.

“I would like to thank every customer for choosing our service and everyone who tried to support us in staying open.”

The closures follow last year’s decision by Morrisons to close 17 of its convenience stores, including the one in Moorland Road in Oldfield Park, along with 52 cafés, all 18 Market Kitchens, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters and four pharmacies.
