A local charity is on the lookout for workplaces across the Bath area who want to switch from commuting by car or public transport to using electric bikes.
Transition Bath has a fleet of electric bikes, more commonly known as e-bikes, that are offered for free to workplaces for six weeks at a time to encourage those who currently drive short distances to work or use public transport to switch to commuting by bike.
The focus of the initiative is to reduce barriers for people who are put off by Bath’s hilly terrain, or consider themselves too unfit to commute by bicycle.
The scheme offers support to participants including free cycle training, route finding and help with purchasing bikes at the end of the loan period via the government’s Cycle to Work Scheme, which offers up to a 40% tax discount on bike purchases.
In the two years the scheme has been running, feedback from participants has been positive and many have gone on to making a permanent switch to riding to work.
Most have found using an e-bike to be a more convenient and healthier way to get to work.
Transition Bath is now looking for additional workplaces, including companies, businesses, public sector organisations and schools, to be included in the scheme during the remainder of the summer.
