Bus Gate Signs ‘Still Not Clear’ Say Local Residents

People across Bath have said that new signage installed by the Council to better inform drivers of the Dorchester Street bus gate still isn’t clear enough for drivers.

New signs were put up by the Council last week, with signs directing traffic towards the railway station car park in SouthGate now covered.

They have been installed along St James’ Parade near Avon Street car park, as well as outside the Forum building.

The new signage doesn’t however indicate where the bus gate is located on the approach, but instead advises drivers of ‘Dorchester Street Access Restrictions, operational from 10th January 2014, 10am-6pm’.

This has caused confusion to motorists who aren’t sure where Dorchester Street is.

There has also been criticism of how small the signs are.

A yellow sign installed outside Bath College on James Street West is to be moved further along St James’s Parade to further advise drivers approaching from that direction.

A campaign has now been started on Facebook, as well as a petition on 38 Degrees, calling for the Council to cancel all of the fines that have been sent out.

The group are requesting that better signage is installed, with local residents then being consulted on the effectiveness of the signs.

An apology from the Council has also been requested, but they claim on their campaign page ‘this is probably a demand too far.’ You can find the Facebook page here.

A number of local residents have taken to social media sites Twitter and Facebook to air their feelings on the controversial bus gate.

@NOWBath Wrong side of road, too small & still not clear as ‘Get in LAN’ sign still suggests can go left. Need to know that’s Dorchester St.
