Bath Building Society, The Rotary Club and the Council have launched the annual Fireworks Safety Poster competition at Widcombe Infant School in Bath.
Some of the Judges of the competition went to the school to see how the children were getting on with their posters. Alan Keeling and Trevor Dawson from The Rotary Club and Tiffany Hardie-Evans from Bath Building Society were on hand to aid the students with their posters.
Tiffany Hardie-Evans, spokesperson for Bath Building Society said: “It was great to see all the children getting involved; their enthusiasm and stories of fireworks were brilliant! Our involvement with the Fireworks reaches 38 years this year and in those years we must have reached thousands of local children (who now have children of their own!) with the Fireworks Safety message!”
Alan Keeling, Chairman of the Fireworks Committee at The Rotary Club, said: “We are delighted to be working on the Poster competition with Bath Building Society once again. As always with Fireworks, safety is paramount and we hope the poster competition helps the local school children with the right safety message about Fireworks and Bonfires and how dangerous they can be.”
Alison Watts, Headteacher at Widcombe Infant School, said: “The children greatly enjoy participating in community events and the Fireworks Safety Poster competition is a particular favourite. Safety is an important message for children to understand in order to make Bonfire celebrations an enjoyable event for the whole family”.
The poster competition aims to communicate to the school children in and around Bath that fireworks and bonfires can be extremely dangerous by getting them to draw a poster to show the safety aspects of the annual celebration.
All children entering the competition will be given a Free Child Voucher that can be exchanged for a ticket to the Display when purchasing an Adult ticket.
The Fireworks Display will take place on Saturday 2nd November this year at The Recreation Ground and will be run by The Rotary Club and sponsored by Bath Building Society.
Tickets can be bought from all Bath Building Society branches, Bath Rugby Ticket Office, the Students’ Union at the University of Bath and the Bath Box Office Ticket Agency (Bath Tourism Office).
Standard Adult admission costs £5 if bought in advance, and £6 on the gate. Children’s tickets are £3 in advance and £4 on the gate. All monies raised will go to Julian House and Bath Pre-Opportunity School.
