Police searching for missing man Thomas Edwards discovered a body between Bath and Chippenham last night.
The body was discovered close to railway tracks just after 7pm by police search teams. Tom’s family were informed of the discovery soon after the find.
Formal identification is yet to take place.
A renewed appeal was made yesterday morning after new CCTV was revealed showing Thomas getting on a train at Swindon to Chippenham.
Tom lived near Calne and had been on a night out with Nationwide work colleagues in Swindon.
Wiltshire Police had been investigating the possibility that Tom had taken a bus home after being assisted by two police officers.
The CCTV footage shows he caught a train which left Swindon at 11.21pm for Chippenham.
In a statement made last night, Wiltshire Police Inspector Phil Staynings, sector head for Chippenham, Calne and Corsham said: “During our detailed searches of the Chippenham area, a body of a male was located shortly after 7pm this evening.
“Although formal identification has not yet taken place, we have alerted Mr Edwards’ family of this incident.
“I would ask that Mr Edwards’ wife and family are left in private at this time.
“They have asked that any posters relating to Mr Edwards’ disappearance are taken down.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local communities in both Chippenham and Swindon who have been assisting us with our enquiries over the past three days and to our partners at Wiltshire Search and Rescue.
“Finally, I would also like to extend my thanks to the local media for their help in publicising the missing persons appeal.”
