The adult price of a popular bus ticket initiated by the Council will be cut by 45p in a bid to encourage greater cross-company public transport travel in the city.

The BathRider ticket gives virtually unlimited travel by bus across an area that stretches from Bath Spa University to Bathford and from Lansdown to Odd Down.

From 1st September 2013, the Adult BathRider will cost £4.50 instead of £4.95 per day. Students and children can get the ticket for £4. It is sold by the ten main bus companies on their buses in Bath and is valid on all their routes within the Bath boundary until 3am the next day.

All BathRider Day tickets can be bought from the bus driver.

Councillor Caroline Roberts (Lib-Dem, Newbridge), Cabinet Member for Transport, said, “There is an upwards curve of public transport use in the area and Bath & North East Somerset Council wants to promote this even further alongside all bus operators.

“The price cut for the Adult BathRider will help encourage more people to get onto the buses to travel whether it is for work, leisure, or visit friends and family. It is an essential ticket if someone is using routes across different bus operators.”

As well as being available on the bus BathRider Day tickets are also available from the Tourist Information Centre in Abbey Churchyard, Bath Bus Station and the Tourist Centre on Platform 1 of Bath Spa railway station.

These outlets also sell BathRider Week tickets at £17.50 for adults and £16.50 for children under 16. There is no student discount for weekly tickets. They are not valid on tour buses, express coaches or services for special events.  The price of the weekly tickets has been kept frozen by bus operators since 2009.

For travel beyond Bath to Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset, you can buy an AvonRider ticket on buses operated by any of the ten main local operators. It costs £7.20 for adults and £6.20 for children under 16 and students (with an NUS card).
