Bath has been chosen as a trial city for a new scheme to make shopping more enjoyable for local residents while they are out and about across the city centre.
Auto-Busker will be introduced in a number of locations across Bath, though mostly where current human buskers have pitches.
The system will allow for music to be played throughout the day across the streets, providing an entertainment service as well as giving local information on the screen during songs.
The creators of Auto-Busker have said they felt Bath was the right place to trial the system after visiting earlier this year.
Joe King, managing director of Auto-Busker said: “When we visited Bath there was some great singing, and some not so great singing.
“We invented Auto-Busker as a way for locals to enjoy themselves while they’re shopping, and for them not having to resort to using ear plugs or put on ear defenders.
“With the likes of Justin Bieber, One Direction and maybe even a little bit of Beyoncé, we’re sure everyone across Bath will be keen to listen to our fine selection of music when they are walking past the Auto-Busker.”
The Auto-Busker is a 6-foot tall screen with powerful speakers, allowing the music to reach passers-by from some streets away.
It is believed their upkeep will be funded by advertising on the screens, as well as sponsorship by local companies.
