Bath Rugby Foundation has been selected to take part in The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2013; an annual matched funding campaign.

On the mornings of 5th, 6th and 7th of December, donations to the challenge will be matched by the charity’s major donors and their Big Give Charity Champion, the Cabinet Office.

Incredibly, this means any donations made to Bath Rugby Foundation online on those dates, from the minimum of £5 up to the maximum of £5,000, will be doubled instantly.

The charity is hoping to use this unique opportunity to raise £20,000 over the three days, with all monies to be put towards a new Scrum Down for Health programme.

The Scrum Down for Health programme aims to work with children and young people in the local community, from different backgrounds and abilities, to give them advice and information on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

The programme will feature one hour of rugby based fitness followed by education on several key lifestyle areas, including food choices, mental wellbeing, sleep, drugs, alcohol and obesity.

To help make the Scrum Down for Health Programme a reality, donators are encouraged to get online as close to 10am as possible each day. There are a number of charities competing for a ‘pot’ of money allocated by their Charity Champion and it will be available each day on a first come first served basis.

The Foundation were excited to learn that their Charity Champion for this campaign is the Cabinet Office, with Bath Rugby Foundation selected as one of over 50 companies they have chosen to support with a generous grant of £250,000 in total.

Halena Coury, Bath Rugby Foundation Head of Fundraising, said: “We are encouraging as many people as possible to get online to support Bath Rugby Foundation this Christmas.  The more people who donate to us at those allocated times, the more will be doubled and the more the Foundation is able to secure in the end. Ultimately, this means the more local children and young people we are able to help through our new Scrum Down for Health programme”.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Bath Rugby Foundation aims to enhance the lives of young people in the local area through sport.

Through their award-winning Education and Inclusion programmes, the Foundation strive to motivate, raise self-esteem, increase confidence and improve life skills by imparting the values found in rugby – camaraderie, loyalty, discipline and respect.

Bath Rugby Foundation is an independent charity, entirely funded by grants and donations from businesses and individuals.
