The RUH, social housing firm Curo and engineering firm Buro Happold were among organisations demonstrating how they are tackling transport problems at a recent awards ceremony.

Electric cars are increasingly being used across the city
And it was the Bath-based engineering firm which took one of the the honours for its support for cycling.
The annual Travelwest Sustainable Business Travel Awards took place at the Guildhall last night. These recognise the achievements of a diverse range of organisations to put in place sustainable travel plans.
A huge range of ideas were nominated from policeman on bikes to fire brigade staff in electric cars, along with car sharing, walking and better scheduling for deliveries.
Among those up for an award were Bath-based social housing organisation Curo and Buro Happold. Both have invested in extra facilities to encourage more staff to cycle to work.
Buro Happold took the award as most cycle friendly employer in the West of England having seen a 50% increase in use among staff.
Those attending also heard from the Royal United Hospital on how it is dealing with significant challenges in the provision of parking for patients and staff. Meanwhile Dr Ian Walker, from the University of Bath, presented on a new walking route initiatives for the city being pioneered by the university.
Councillor Caroline Roberts, Bath & North East Somerset Council Cabinet Member for Transport, who spoke at the event, said: “We are delighted to have played host to this awards event which showcased some of the innovative ways organisations in the West are tackling travel issues.
“We know the importance of practical solutions to travel problems so that we can make our area the place to live, work and visit. Encouraging sustainable solutions are an essential part of this area’s efforts to create the conditions for business growth and new jobs for local people.
“I congratulate all the nominees and winners on the diverse and imaginative ideas they have come up with. I will certainly be looking closely to see which we might be able to apply.”
The West of England (partnership between Bath & North East Somerset Council, Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset councils) has led the way in the development of a Travel Plan awards scheme since the original introduction in 2001 as a showcase for successful good practice of travel planning.
