Scores of swashbuckling students and staff from City of Bath College swaggered through the streets in a fundraising pirate walk last week.
More than 100 budding buccaneers donned their finest seafaring outfits and roamed Bath city centre in search of hidden treasure.
The Walk Like A Pirate event saw drama, music and media students coming together to raise more than £100 for the Off The Record youth charity.
The crowd of pirates followed a skull and crossbones flag as they were lead on a circular route through the streets by Media Course Coordinator ‘Captain’ James Purslow.
With 10 paces on the plank being threatened, they did exactly as instructed and stopped at several piracy hotspots for short performances, songs and sea shanties.
The pirates were joined by several unsuspecting tourists who were keen to be part of the fundraising event and capture it on camera.
The pirates shook collection buckets as they walked from City of Bath College towards the Little Theatre then around to BHS and over to Bath Abbey, before heading back to the College for a pirate themed party with live music.
James, who organised the event, said everyone got into the pirate spirit with some very convincing costumes that included eye patches, bandanas, peg legs and stuffed parrots.
He said: “Everyone came together to support a great cause. It was a great cross college collaboration and a fantastic learning experience for everyone.
“Many of the students were collecting for charity and everyone was very generous with their donations.”
The event (on Wednesday, October 9th) was organised by the College’s TEMPA (technology, entertainment, media, music, performing arts) department to bring the students together and help them make friends at the start of the academic year.
This fancy-dress event built on the success of the College’s Zombie Apocalypse Walk in October last year.
The College continues to work closely with Off the Record, which provides free and confidential services to children and young people to improve their emotional health and well-being.
