Bath Building Society has opened its annual Charity Awards to entries from local charities and community organisations across the local area.
The Awards, now in their eighth year, were established to support as many local initiatives as possible from the growing number of requests that the Society receives each week asking for support.
The initiative offers a number of cash grants of £1,500 (one), £1,000 (two) and £500 (four), plus hot air balloon tickets (three pairs) that the charities can use to raise more funds.
Chief Executive of the Society Dick Jenkins, said: “Since we launched the Awards eight years ago the number of applications has increased year on year and through the programme we aim to help as many community groups and charities in the West Country as possible.
“There are so many small groups that are located in our patch that are striving to help as many people as possible. We want to be able to help them do their work which is so important”.
Each application into the Awards will be reviewed by a panel of Judges led by Dick Jenkins the Chief Executive of the Society, and the selected winners will attend an Awards ceremony at The Mayors Parlour in July.
If entering the Awards, the Charity or Community Group must –
- Complete a Bath Building Society Charity Awards application form (found on their website here);
- Have a turnover of less than £200,000 per year;
- Operate and benefit people in Bath Building Society’s business areas of Bath and North East Somerset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Bristol.
Chris Jones, the Chair of Zenith Youth Theatre Group in Bath who won the top donation last year, said: “Winning £1,500 in our golden anniversary year last year marked a significant milestone for our Group.
“The money given to us by Bath Building Society went towards sound and lighting equipment at our rehearsal venue St Marks Community Centre in Widcombe. This has benefitted all members of the local community for many years to come”.
Completed entries must be with the Society by Monday 9th June.
