Homes and businesses have been left without working phone lines after a failure at the BT Kingsmead telephone exchange here in Bath.

BT have said that they were made aware of the problem at 13.12 this afternoon, which has left the dialling codes 01225 and 01380 unusable.

When dialling, the phone calls are not connected and either silence is heard or the call is disconnected.

Engineers at the exchange are estimating that the telephony services across the area will resume from around 3pm.

In a statement on the service outage, BT said: “We’re really sorry but we’ve got a problem at the moment in the Bath Kingsmead and surrounding area, which means that some of our customers will be having trouble with their telephone line. We’re trying to fix the problem as quickly as we can.”

Broadband services are currently unaffected, as are businesses and homes across the area that use fibre connectivity.

@NOWBath It seems the whole of Bath are suffering. Can’t dial local numbers from a landline or mobile.
