Proposals for a new primary school in Bath have now been submitted to the Department for Education for consideration to open in September 2015.
Members of the Bath Education Trust submitted an application for the new primary school to open in September 2015.
The school will be a specialist STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and Enterprise school where Spanish is taught from reception through to year 6 and include a 20 place centre for children with Special Educational Needs.
Bath Education Trust spokeman and Principal of City of Bath College, Matt Atkinson said: “We are delighted to be making this application to the Department for Education for a new school for Bath.
“We have been working with the local community for the last three months and have been overwhelmed with the level of local support; to date a large number of families have already come forward to support our proposals.
“We hope to have some positive news to share with them in the summer, when we expect to hear whether our application has been approved by the Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove.”
He added: “We are still very keen to hear from interested parents as the greater support we can show the better if we are successful in being accepted for interview.”
The group behind the new school comprises of Beechen Cliff, Hayesfield, Ralph Allen, Three Ways and Wellsway schools and the City of Bath College.
They have been working with national charity, the New Schools Network (NSN), to prepare the application, which was submitted last week.
Natalie Evans, Director of New Schools Network said: “The New Bath Primary School group has worked hard to prepare an application for the Department for Education.
“We very much hope they will have the chance to put their plans into action when Government announces later in the summer which groups have been given the green light to open.
“There are nearly 300 Free Schools open or due to open this September which are proving popular with parents and adding good new schools places to their local communities.”
