People struggling to overcome alcohol or drug problems, and their families, can get help with coping thanks to new services.

These services, commissioned jointly by the Council, NHS Bath and North East Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group (BaNES CCG) will let anyone interested in finding out more is invited along to a launch event in St Mary the Virgin Church Hall, Bathwick, on Tuesday 27th August (12noon-2pm).

The event offers people the chance to learn more about the wide range of services which they could benefit from, including:

  • Various support groups and counselling services to help overcome alcohol/drug problems
  • Help with finding a job or training and education opportunities
  • Support groups for families and carers struggling to help someone with an alcohol/drug problem
  • Housing and benefit advice services
  • Advice and information around drug & alcohol misuse
  • Support and care from GPs covering problems with alcohol
  • Specialist psychology and psychiatry services.

Councillor Simon Allen (Lib-Dem, Radstock), Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, said: “Bath & North East Somerset Council is working with partners to help people in the area who are struggling to overcome alcohol and drug problems and offer support to their families. We encourage anyone interested to come along to discover more about the non-judgmental advice and support available. The event will be informal and will also include family activities, music and entertainment.”

The Council and BaNES CCG are working with the organisations Developing Health & Independence (DHI), Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust and Project 28 to deliver the services.

Dr Ian Orpen, chair of BaNES CCG, said: “We work with the Council to plan local health and social care services, and to commission services that make a real difference to local people. Having a single point of access for support with drug and alcohol problems will make it much easier for people to get the help they need at an early stage.”

If you, or a family member, need help with alcohol or drug problems you can telephone DHI on 01225 329 411 or visit www.dhi-online.org.uk.
