Local people are being encouraged by the Council to apply a share of £200,000 for home energy saving improvements.
The Energy@Home Project provides grants for loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, solid wall insulation and boiler upgrades.
Money is available to anyone in the area in receipt of certain qualifying benefits or who live in parts of Twerton or Southdown – these areas have been identified for funding by the Government from a separate grant.
Coinciding with the Council’s call to action, Councillor Tim Ball (Lib-Dem, Twerton), Cabinet Member for Homes and Planning, opened an Energy@Home Winter Warmth drop-in at the same time based in the Time Bank Plus shop on Twerton High Street every Tuesday between 10am and 12pm and alternate Saturday’s.
He said: “With energy bills going through the roof, Bath & North East Somerset Council is doing everything it can to support local people to stay warm and keep control of their heating costs.
“The Energy@Home project is awarding grants now for many types of insulation, including the most costly types like solid wall insulation. We want people to approach us and apply now. Residents can also access the simple, independent advice available through either dropping into our new Winter Warmth Advice Service, calling into the One Stop Shop at Lewis House or telephoning us.”
Mike McClelland from the Centre for Sustainable Energy added: “We’ve had a real interest in the offer and are delighted that local residents are taking the opportunity to make their homes warmer and cheaper to heat. There’s still funding available though, so anyone who is interested can give us a call to find out more information.”
This project is funded by Bath & North East Somerset Council and Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE).
