During Holy Week, 13 children accompanied by 12 adults including the Rector of Bath Abbey embarked on a 37-mile pilgrimage from Tewkesbury Abbey to Bath Abbey over four days.
The pilgrimage ended on Thursday (5 April) evening where the pilgrims had their feet washed during the Maundy Thursday service at Bath Abbey, which was attended by over 100 people. This ceremony recalls Jesus washing his disciples’ feet at the Last Supper.
Harriet Garner, aged 15, who was one of the pilgrims, said: “It was a great way to end the pilgrimage and having my feet washed made me feel closer to the people I walked with.“
Edward Mason, Rector of Bath Abbey who took part in the pilgrimage and the feet-washing ceremony, said: “The pilgrimage transformed us from a group of individuals into a united body. It was an amazing experience which we will all remember for a long time.“
