Local people in Radstock and being encouraged by the Council’s Cabinet to give their view about proposals for investing £500,000 in their community.
The money was earmarked by the Council as part of the 2012/13 budget process to support the regeneration of the town. It is aimed to improve the street scene, encourage property regeneration, and attract private sector investment.
Councillor Paul Crossley (Lib-Dem, Southdown), Leader of Council, said, “It is really important that Bath & North East Somerset Council supports the regeneration of Radstock through targeted projects that will benefit the long-term prospects of the town, like the update of Victoria Hall.
“The Cabinet wants feedback from the public and local organisations on the ideas that we have put forward to invest the half a million pounds the Council has allocated to achieve this. We will take into account people’s views as part of a Cabinet decision on how to invest the money at the earliest opportunity.”
- £160,000 to go towards the redesign and updating of Victoria Hall to bring it up to 21st century standards;
- £150,000 to improve safety for people on foot who use bicycles on Frome Road to widen the pavement in some area and introduce one additional crossing;
- £100,000 to support the work of the Radstock and Westfield Economic Development Forum to carry out its action plan as quickly as possible;
- £50,000 to update the children’s play park in Writhlington and provide more opportunities for it to be used by more people;
- £25,000 to widen Morley Terrace in Tyning village to provide the opportunity for better parking and improve access to around sixty homes;
- £10,000 to roll-out a 20 mph in Haydon – specifically Haydon Hill and Kilmersdon Road to St. Nicholas School;
- £5,000 to provide a pavement on the blind bend between upper and lower Clandown.
