Waste Road Shows On The Way

Three electrical road shows will be held by the Council this September to help residents understand the importance of recycling small waste electrical items.

The events will give residents the chance to win great prizes including an iPad and digital cameras by bringing their small unwanted electrical items to staff at the road show. The collected items will be taken to be recycled. The promotion is organised with Repic, a waste consortium and partner of the Council.

If people want to clear out some unwanted electrical items from their kitchen cupboards, empty the loft or garage or even get rid of old toys from the kids bedroom, they can bring them to the Council at the following locations between 10am – 2pm:

  • Friday 7 September:  Morrison’s car park, London Road, Bath BA1 6AE.
  • Saturday 8 September: Beacon Hall, French Close, Peasedown St John, BA2 8SN (event combined with the Council’s electric blanket testing session).
  • Saturday 15 September: Chew Valley School car park, Chew Lane, Chew Magna, BS40 8QB.

Council staff will be handing out a scratch card for every small waste electrical item brought to the road shows. The scratch cards will give residents the chance to win great prizes. We will only be able to accept small electrical items on the day and terms and conditions apply.

People can bring any small household electrical items to us on the day that have:

  • A plug
  • Batteries
  • Needs charging
  • Has the crossed out wheelie bin logo

Councillor David Dixon (Lib-Dem, Oldfield), Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said, “By remembering to recycle their small electrical residents can help reduce the volume of waste that ends up in landfill. This saves money from the local public purse and helps reduce carbon emissions.

“It is estimated that someone in the UK will throw away over three tonnes of waste electrical and electronic waste in their life time. This means that the amount of electrical waste created by us in the UK would fill Wembley Stadium over six times, every year. This amount is continuing to rise. So remember don’t bin it. Bring it and win it.”

Recycling advisors will be at the road shows to help with any queries residents might have about recycling in general, home composting and reducing household waste.
