Students, Further and Higher Education staff, and business leaders are being encouraged to come forward and give their view on how graduates can be retained in the area.

The Council’s Economic and Community Development Policy Development and Scrutiny Panel are holding an Inquiry Day at 3pm, Wednesday 18th April 2012 to discuss issues, needs and priorities for the retention of graduates.

Guest speakers include Paul Swinney from the Centre for Cities, the nation research and policy institute.

Ben Stevens (Lib-Dem, Widcombe) Vice-Chair of the Panel, said, “The purpose of the day is to find out what more we could all be doing to encourage graduates to stay in our area rather than move elsewhere. Bath & North East Somerset Council wants to combine the efforts and experience of students, colleges, Universities, and businesses to achieve this outcome.

“As well as interesting guest speakers, we will also be holding workshops where people can give their view about this important subject. There are clear benefits to the local economy of retaining the graduates that our excellent Universities educate. We hope as many people as possible come along and give their perspective on this important issue.”

For more information about the agenda and day itself, people can contact the Policy Development and Scrutiny Team on 01225 394456 or email: [email protected].
