A diseased Purple Beech tree removed from Sydney Gardens bhas been recycled into a range of high quality benches for local school children.
After a 25 ton crane removed the tree, the Council’s Tree Team removed the decayed timber and used a portable sawmill to process the stem into planks. These were then cut to specification to make fantastic new benches at Weston All Saints Primary School and Batheaston Primary School – the locations of two of the Council’s Primary School improvement projects.
Councillor David Dixon (Lib-Dem, Oldfield), Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said, “When we regrettably have no other choice than to remove a tree because of decay and disease, Bath & North East Somerset Council is keen to act as sustainably as possible and re-use what parts of the tree we can. In this case, two local schools have benefited from some excellent craftsmanship and pupils can enjoy the gardens a little bit more as a result.”
To complete the display at Weston All Saints Primary School, the ‘throne’ was made out of an Ash Tree stem that had fallen over in Pensford.
