Three students from Bath Spa University have been handpicked by Blur guitarist Graham Coxon to support him when he plays Trinity in Bristol this Saturday.
Chris Bunt (guitar/vocals), Jim Heard (bass/vocals) and Mike Griffiths (drums/vocals) are all third year Commercial Music students at Bath Spa, where they formed their band Jackhatch in 2010 playing a mix of punk rock and power pop.
To launch the release of his eighth solo album A+E, Graham Coxon is playing 14 shows across the UK in April and has chosen the support acts himself. Any band or artist who wanted to support Graham could enter the competition by uploading a Youtube link to his website.
Jackhatch won both the public vote and was Graham’s personal choice for the Bristol leg of the tour.
Jim Heard said: “We’re absolutely over the moon. The Trinity gig is sold out and we’re looking forward to playing to a packed house alongside one of the icons of British rock and pop music.”
Senior Lecturer in Commercial Music, Richard J. Parfitt added: “Jackhatch are an incredibly talented band that mix three-part harmonies with sharp angular post punk rock. Being picked by Graham Coxon is a stamp of approval and indication of their commitment and originality.”
