A man in his 30s from Bath is lucky to be alive after he was woken by his smoke alarm after a fire broke out in his flat.
On Thursday, four fire engines from Bath Fire Station were called to the second floor flat on Freeview Road in Twerton, after the man raised the alarm. Four firefighters in breathing apparatus made their way up to the property where they found a fire in the living area.
A high pressure hose reel was used to bring the blaze under control which caused fire and smoke damage to the entire room. A positive pressure ventilation fan was also used to clear smoke from the home.
It’s thought the fire was started accidentally by a discarded cigarette which set fire to bedding. The man, who was the only person in the property at the time, had fallen asleep but was woken when the smoke alarm activated. He escaped unhurt and was given further assistance at the scene by volunteers from the Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service.
