RUH Car Parking Prices On The Up

A new pricing structure for parking in public car parks at the Royal United Hospital is to be introduced next month.

Visitors will see a reduction in the cost of parking in certain areas and depending upon the length of time they park. There will be a modest rise in the pricing of the remaining parking fees. The premise of the first 20 minutes being free for all visitors remains.

The Trust’s Director of Estates and Facilities Howard Jones says: “We have tried to make the pricing structure slightly simpler and also want to ensure that the impact upon those visiting seriously ill patients, who are likely to be here for extended periods of time, is not too great. We recognise that certain groups of visitors and patients require special consideration and we have discounts in place for these groups, which will remain.

“Car parking fees for the public have remained unchanged for at least five years but during this time costs of parking in neighbouring hospitals and in the city of Bath have increased in line with rising costs. The new pricing structure will be fixed for a minimum of three years. Money raised from car parking fees is used to pay for surfacing, barriers, ticket machines, lighting and any surplus goes into the hospital maintenance budget.”

Disabled parking within designated spaces is free of charge and parking for patients needing regular in-patient treatment for cancer is at the reduced fee of £1 per day. There’s also a ticket which is valid for 5 days, and whilst the cost of this has increased, it still provides a substantial discount on the daily fee at £15. Visitors and patients who are in receipt of benefits may also be able to claim back traveling costs, including car parking charges.
