With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, the timing’s perfect for Bath Abbey to introduce its Romantic Tower Tours.

The Abbey’s Tower Tours are already popular with visitors wanting to enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of this historic church. However, couples can now upgrade from the standard group experience to a private tour tailored for two.

In addition to usual Tower Tour highlights which include sitting behind the Abbey clock-face, chiming the Abbey bells and standing on top of the famous vaulted ceiling, visitors on the Romantic tour will be accompanied by their own tour guide and get to enjoy the views from the top while sampling glasses of bubbly.

For those ready to take the next step, this could also be the perfect spot for a marriage proposal.

Joe Reynolds, Tower Tour Manager, said: “In the last eight weeks, we’ve had at least five proposals on the top of the Tower and one outside the Abbey, so there’s no doubt romance is in the air! You’ll always remember where you were when you decided to share a life together, so why not choose a spot that’s pretty, private and unique? You’ll also be adding to the Abbey’s 1,000 year-old history!”

Merlyn Stracey, a visitor from London whose fiancé popped the question while they were on a Tower Tour at Bath Abbey said: “We were really enjoying the tour. Our guide was great, very informative and interesting. We got to the top of the Tower and all of a sudden, Jon proposed. I was in complete shock as it was totally unexpected!

“It was amazing as it was such a surprise, I’d said, “Yes”, before he’d finished asking me!  It was such a fabulous day there was a real chill in the air but the sun was shining and our Tower Tour Guide popped out after and brought us champagne flutes and champagne which was a treat. It was such a fantastic way to propose, what a weekend!“

To book a Romantic Tower Tour, contact Joe Reynolds, Bath Abbey’s Tower Tours Manager, today on: 01225 303310 or [email protected]. Prices start from £100 (per couple) depending on timings and availability.
